WHAT IS RESTYLANE?
Restylane® is an injectable filler that can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds or laugh lines), the area just below the nose and above the upper lip; the corners of the mouth; and marionette lines—the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jawline.
HOW IS RESTYLANE ADMINISTERED?
Restylane® is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts using an ultrafine needle. After the injection, your physician may gently massage your skin to optimize contouring. Restylane® is a simple and convenient procedure and results are practically instantaneous.
DO RESTYLANE INJECTIONS HURT?
Again, Restylane® is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, your physician may chose to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area to further minimize discomfort.
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
The average treatment results last 6 months or longer. You may notice reabsorption faster in areas where there is a lot of muscle movement.
WHAT SHOULD PATIENTS DO PRIOR TO TREATMENT?
Patients should avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week prior to treatment. This will help to minimize any bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF RESTYLANE INJECTABLE GEL?
Most side effects are mild to moderate in nature, and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 days in lips. The most common side effects include, but are not limited to temporary injections site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration.
